This is a fungal disease that is commonly found in California trees. While the most common season to notice this disease is the spring, anthracnose could show up in your trees at any time throughout the year. Some warning signs of anthracnose include:
- Darkness in the color of the leaves
- Sunken lesions that may be apparent on darker-colored, affected leaves
- Leaves falling prematurely, especially during the growing season
- If the infection occurs in younger leaves, they may curl and a portion of the leaf may die
- Signs of infection will most likely show up in the lower part of the tree causing many of the lower leaves to fall
- Branches and twigs on the tree may also become infected. If this occurs, you may notice infected areas on the branches that may appear sunken with enlarged edges, referred to as cankers
These particular insects are one of the most common tree pests in the country. They cause overall damage to both the leaves and the growing patterns of your trees, and feed on the juices inside. Some signs to look for if you suspect an aphid infestation in your tree include:
- A slowing in the growth of any fruit and/or flowers on your tree
- Branches or shoots of the tree experiencing stunted or delayed growth
- Leaves wilting or warping
